Revenue, often called turnover or gross sales, is total amount of money your online store takes in during a specific period from selling products or services. It is raw amount of cash that flows into your business cash register before you subtract a single cent for expenses.

To visualize this, imagine running a small shop that sells handmade wooden chairs. If you sell ten chairs in a week for one hundred dollars each, your total income for that week is exactly one thousand dollars. That one thousand dollars is your raw top-line figure. It represents total volume of transactions passing through your business.

It is incredibly important not to confuse this number with pure profit. That one thousand dollars is not money you get to keep and spend on yourself. Out of that amount, you still have to pay for wood used to build chairs, electricity for tools, advertising costs, shipping boxes, and taxes. This metric simply tells you how big your business is and how much total selling activity is happening, serving as a starting point for measuring overall financial health.
